THE BOSU BALANCE TRAINER

 

The BOSU Balance Trainer can help strengthen and coordinate the entire musculature, including the muscles of your body that you don't see. A chain is only as strong as its weakest link. The human body is no different. Muscular imbalance or inadequacy of even the smallest muscle can cause the entire system to fail. There are 640 individually named skeletal muscles in the body. Yet we as athletes and fitness enthusiasts tend to conceptualize training (especially weight training) as specifically targeting only the large "prime mover" muscles.

The BOSU also activates the stabilizer muscles key to balance, performance and power production. Losing your balance, even for a split second, means a loss of functional strength while your mind/body focuses on the number one priority, regaining balance. Any interuptions to balance also break the chain of force production and skilled movement.

The good news is that balance, like any other skill, is highly trainable. No matter what level you are starting from, you will see and you will feel the difference that improved balance makes. One of the reasons BOSU is so effective is that it allows you to find your "point of challenge" safely and then begin to improve your capabilities from that "point". We have integrated BOSU into our sport balance program, into our multijoint dumbbell lifts, strength tubing exercises, quickness and footwork drills, core workouts, aerobic fitness classes, and rehab exercises. It's versatility helps balance become a part of all parts of your training.
